The GMX Search for Windows

Use GMX Search for Windows to search directly from your Windows taskbar, even without opening your browser. For your security, GMX Search for Windows is encrypted and can be run in the browser's private mode.

Installing GMX Search for Windows

Instsall the GMX Search for Windows in order to search directly from your Windows Taskbar. Your Browser’s standard-search will not be affected.

  1. Visit the Download-Page.
  2. Click Free Download.
    The setup program automatically detects your system’s default language and installs GMX Search accordingly. If your system’s default language is different from English, Spanish or French the setup will automatically install the English version.
  3. Save the Installer locally by clicking Save File and choosing your preferred location
    The Installer will be downloaded in the background.
  4. Double-click the Installer.
    The setup-window will open. Wait until GMX Search for Windows has been downloaded and installed successfully.
  5. Choose one of the following options:
    • Click Yes, if you would like to add GMX Search for Windows to your Windows Taskbar (a).
    • Click No, if you would like to add GMX Search for Windows only to your Windows Sart-Menu (b).

    You can change these Settings after Installation.




    A popup will appear, notifying you that the installation has been completed.
You are now able to use GMX Search for Windows.
Using GMX Search for Windows

You can use GMX Search for Windows in different ways. Here, you can learn about these options. Also, you can use GMX Search for Windows in private mode.

Search by input of a search term

  1. Input a term in the search field of the Taskbar.
    Suggestions will appear during the input.
  2. Click on the magnifying glass. Alternatively, press the Enter-Key on your keyboard.



The list of search results will open in a new tab on your browser.
Search by suggestions

  1. Input a term in the search field of the Taskbar.
    Suggestions will appear during the input.
  2. Click on a suggestion.



The list of search results for the chosen suggestion will open in a new tab on your browser.
Directly open a Webpage through Search

  1. Input a URL (web address) in the Taskbar.
    In the list of suggestions a Globe-Icon followed by the URL will appear.
  2. Click on the suggestion with the Globe-Icon.



    The webpage will directly open in a new tab on your browser.
Search privately with GMX Search for Windows

You can use GMX Search for Windows in the private-mode of your Browser.

  1. Click on the search field of GMX Search for Windows in your taskbar.
  2. Input a search term.
  3. Click on the Mask-Icon.



    Private-mode will be activated.
The results of GMX Search for Windows will open in a new window of the private-mode of your Browser.
Settings for GMX Search for Windows

You can choose different settings in GMX Search for Windows.

  1. Open Settings
    1. Click on the green Lock-Icon in the Taskbar of GMX Search for Windows.
    2. Click on the Menu-Icon.
    3. Click on the Search settings.



    The settings-window will open.
  2. Choose between different settings:
    1. Check the box for Show search field in the taskbar, if you want the search field to appear in your Windows-Taskbar.
    2. Check the box for Open web address from the search field, if you wish to directly navigate to the web address (e. g. www.gmx.com) inserted in the search field.
    3. Check the box for Automatically insert copied text into the search field, if you wish to directly paste text from your clipboard.



  3. Close the settings window.
    Your settings will be automatically saved.
Default browser selection for GMX Search for Windows

You can choose, which browser should be used to display search results of GMX Search for Windows. This setting will not change your system’s default browser settings.

  1. Open settings.
    1. Click on the green Lock-Icon in the Taskbar of GMX Search for Windows.
    2. Click on the Menu-Icon.
    3. Click on Search Settings.



    The settings-window will open.
  2. Click on the downward facing arrow under Browser selection.
    A dropdown-menu will open.
  3. Choose your preferred browser.



  4. Close the settings-window.
    Your settings will be automatically saved.
Uninstalling GMX Search for Windows

If you wish to stop using GMX Search for Windows, you can uninstall it.

  1. Open the Windows Settings.
  2. Click on Apps.
    All your installed Programs and Apps will be listed.
  3. Scroll down to the entry GMX Search for Windows.
  4. Click on the entry and then on Uninstall.
  5. Confirm by clicking on Uninstall.
GMX Search for Windows will be uninstalled.
